UBC Forestry’s David Tindall selected to be trained by Al Gore as a Climate Reality presenter

Vancouver, August 15th, 2012 – 115 Canadians were nominated to take part in a formal training offered by the Honourable Al Gore, former Vice‐President of the United States, and Nobel Prize Laureate. The Canadian delegation will join 800 new presenters from over 20 countries, on August 21‐23, in San Francisco, California.

The participants represent a wide range of backgrounds and ages and include students, lawyers, university professors, business leaders, environmental consultants, engineers, professionals from diverse sectors, and climate scientists. David Tindall from Vancouver, British Columbia will be part of the group of Canadian trainees and will be available to offer free presentations on climate change as of October 1st, 2012. David Tindall is an environmental sociologist in the departments of Forest Resources Management, and Sociology at the University of British Columbia. He is currently working on several research projects (of provincial, national, and international scope) that examine sociological aspects of climate change.

All Climate Reality Canada presenters are trained by Al Gore and some of the world’s top climate scientists. This technique provides them with the tools necessary to deliver informative and motivating presentations on the impacts of, and solutions to the climate crises. Each future presenter has committed to delivering a minimum of 10 free presentations on climate change in the 12 months following the training.

The presentations are offered free of charge in numerous Canadian cities and towns, large and small, for diverse organizations including primary and secondary schools, universities, businesses, non‐governmental organizations, government agencies, special events and other audiences. Since the founding of the Climate Reality Project Canada in 2007, over 3,200 presentations have been delivered, reaching over 475,000 Canadians.

This success is due not only to the dedication of the presenters but also to the support of Climate Reality Canada’s partners. These include, the Government of Quebec, Desjardins General Insurance, CN, BLJC, the Bank of Development of Canada and the Conférence des élus of Montreal. In addition, a strategic partnership with the David Suzuki Foundation, a like minded organization committed to raising awareness on climate change issues, has enabled Climate Reality Canada to achieve its many goals.

“This training will allow Climate Reality Canada to extend its reach and raise awareness among more Canadians on climate change issues” said Karel Mayrand, Chair of the Board of directors of the organization.

“Moreover, Climate Reality Canada will be better prepared to advise small and medium enterprises and enable them to join their efforts to the fight against climate change, since many selected trainees have an extensive background in business management”.
