While I was in South India, I was immersed in local conservation issues, with a particular focus on human-wildlife conflict. A few co-workers and I got to visit Indu, Sandhya and Jayanthi – three rescued temple elephants at a care facility. They are such gentle giants!
During my work term, I was responsible for researching how different species are framed by politics, culture, and the experience of crop/livestock loss to wildlife. I’m learning so much about how we form our perceptions of wildlife, and accordingly, how we choose to conserve them.
