For my first co-op term, I worked at Sunrise Kitchens where I applied wood-related knowledge in advanced cabinet manufacturing. Throughout the work term, I took part in data integration between ERP/ CRM, Web-Cab, and Microvellum, assisting the supervisor building a new bridge to connect engineering software with administrative software. In the project, I joined the meetings with Cienapps, Kaizen Discovery, Lignum Consulting, and machine suppliers to figure out data requirement for each department. I also did time studies on each machine in the shop flow to help managers organize plant for continuous improvement which were similar to some labs in WOOD 330 (Industrial Engineering) and WOOD 335 (Quality Improvement). From the project, I got a big picture of the working processes within a cabinet company, and improved my communication skills by working with the supervisor and operators. The Co-op program provided a great opportunity to broaden my view and get practical experience in the wood products processing field.
