This summer I have been working as a Communications Intern with the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC). I have been writing stories about conservation and the work that NCC does on its properties in Alberta. This has allowed me to improve my writing and develop other communication skills, such as interviewing. Becoming a better storyteller is important to me because stories, communication, and effective public engagement are powerful tools, and I believe can make a huge impact in conservation efforts.
Alongside my writing, I also take photographs and capture footage at Conservation Volunteer events, which is a program that NCC runs to help land managers and stewards of NCC properties achieve their conservation goals with the help of a group of incredible volunteers. Helping with these events has been fun and a fantastic learning experience because the volunteer community is full of inspiring people who love to get involved in nature. Listening to the stories and experiences of NCC’s volunteers, natural area managers, and partners has been the best part of my summer, and I’m excited for what the rest of my work term will teach me!
