For my second co-op term, I was a research assistant in the Rhemtulla lab and UFORIA lab, and I worked on a project about the multi-functionality of community gardens in the City of Vancouver. This position involved a well mixed of field and outdoor components. I got to spend time in beautiful community gardens around the city, conducted tree inventory, surveyed gardeners, interviewed garden coordinators, and learned about gardening and the communities. For the indoor days, I would conduct tasks such as land cover analysis using ArcGIS, perform analysis using i-Tree Eco, and digitizing the collected data. I am thankful for this opportunity as it has allowed me to apply what I have learnt in school, and to build upon it.
