BSCW – The Home Depot, Richmond, BC
For my first co-op term, I had the opportunity to work as a lumber sales associate in the lumber and building materials department at The Home Depot in Richmond, BC. My main responsibilities were to facilitate sales of building materials, wood and millwork products by actively seeking out customers to assess their needs and to provide recommendations based on relevant knowledge. Using the radial arm and vertical panel saws, performing rough cuts on dimensional lumber and wood-based panels was also part of the job, as these products are often too large to safely fit into customers’ vehicles. I was also tasked with training new associates of the department as mentor and associate coach, where I had the privilege to work and share product knowledge with some very interesting co-workers. Taking all elements into consideration, I am confident that the unique skill set I’ve gained throughout this work term will prove to be of great value for my future career.
