Arial Eatherton - Tree Ring Lab

BSCN – Tree Ring Lab, Vancouver, BC

For my fourth co-op term, I worked as a crew lead and research assistant as a part of the Tree Ring Lab in the Faculty of Forestry at UBC. In this position, I completed field work in wildfire affected plots establish by the BC government across the Cariboo region to evaluate the effects of wildfire on tree survivorship, fuel load, and tree regeneration. After the field season ended, I organized data, dried and weighed our samples, and began work on a report for the BC government on the status of their inventory plots post-fire. My favourite part of this position was getting to build relationships and connections in my workplace, and conducting field work in parts of BC I’ve never been able to visit before.
