BSCN – Lil’wat Forestry Ventures, Mount Currie, BC
For my first co-op summer work term, I have been working at Lil’wat Forestry Ventures in Mount Currie, BC as a Forest Technician. These past few months, my job responsibilities have been primarily dedicated to tree planting in the local area, where I’ve learned how to correctly plant and choose appropriate microsites for the specific tree species we plant to maximize survival. I will then be moving on to perform silvicultural surveys on our planted sites and required to write up compilations with final recommendations. I have also completed my S100 and S180 course so I can firefight in BC if and when a fire season starts!
When I first started Co-op, I was so nervous as to what to expect and if it was right for me, but being lucky enough to kick off my career in Forestry in my hometown has been an unreal experience. It has challenged me in ways that I could not have foreseen for myself this early in my post-secondary education, but it has made me grow and learn more work-life applicable skills than I could’ve thought I would have by the time I graduate, and this is my first work term!
