BSCN – UBC Belowground Ecosystem Group, Graham Island, BC

For my third work term, I worked as a research assistant with Sue Grayston in the UBC Belowground Ecosystem Group. The research, which was part of the MFLNRO Forest Carbon Initiative, was designed to study how fertilization of western red cedar seedlings in Haida Gwaii could increase soil carbon sequestration and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. My work involved lab and project design work on campus at UBC and field work in Haida Gwaii where we established research plots, mapped seedlings, and collected tree data. This term allowed me to live and work in beautiful locations in Haida Gwaii and let me practice independent remote work.
