This summer, I have been working with the Okanagan and Similkameen Invasive Species Society as a Field Assistant. I collect data about the presence of invasive plants such as the species, density, area, and whether there is evidence of biological control agents. In sensitive habitats such as riparian areas, I remove the weeds and bag them to reduce the spread of seeds and deplete the seed bank in the soil.  I have enjoyed learning to identify both invasive and Indigenous plants, and receiving training on wildlife such as snakes, birds, and Giant Asian Hornets.
