If you have a field-based component in your class, you may want to think about using 360° / 3D video capture to create an immersive online experience for students. Patrick Culbert alerted me to this video of the tree canopy walk at the UBC Botanical Garden (thanks Patrick!).
It’s best viewed on a mobile device (phone or tablet) – simply move it around to change your perspective. But you can also view it on a computer (in YouTube) by clicking your mouse and pointing in various directions. One can also use a Google Cardboard VR device to get something of a 3D effect.
The camera and accessories are not too expensive, but please let me know if you are interested in using technology like this, and I’ll see if I can order some gear that we can all share.
