There were a few questions about Work Learn students at the Town Hall earlier today. While we don’t yet have a complete picture, I do have some information to share.
If you’ve applied for an International Undergraduate Research Work position, the Centre for Career and Student Involvement continues to monitor the evolving COVID-19 situation, and their commitment to students remains their highest priority. They are working both with UBC Human Resources and Employee Relations to establish guidelines on how best to support student employees.
If you’ve applied for an NSERC Undergraduate Student Research Award position, the curtailment of on-campus research activities applies until at least April 15, 2020. The implications of this curtailment beyond this date are not yet clear, but it would be safe to assume that students could at least do desk work / literature reviews from home.
Both programs will continue to honour their commitments to summer 2020 research opportunities (if your research work can continue). The Centre for Career and Student Involvement is awaiting guidance on how student pay will be handled during this period, and will share this information with you as soon as it becomes available.
