About the Symposium
Urban forests are an essential component of a healthy and sustainable city, especially in the era of rapid urbanization and globalization. Research has proven that urban forests can benefit us in various ways. They improve air quality, reduce the heat island effect, maintain biodiversity, and improve our health. However, urban forests in many cities are diminishing, fragmenting, and deteriorating due to a limited understanding of urban forestry, restricted and competing land uses, and low political priority. Therefore, there is a growing demand for more research to improve our knowledge of urban forestry, and for more trained professionals who better understand and manage urban forests.
To continue meaningful conversations & to learn best practices in urban forestry, and to strengthen international collaboration between urban forestry institutes in the New Normal, the Faculty of Forestry at the University of British Columbia (UBC) and Qingdao Agricultural University (QAU) will organize the International Symposium of Urban Greening and Wellbeing (ISUGW) on Friday, March 3rd, 2023 (Vancouver time). The ISUGW will be open to researchers, students, professionals, government officials, and non-governmental members who work and/or study in the field of urban forestry around the world. The Forum will discuss the current state and growing interest in urban greening and human wellbeing.
