Silver Ring Ceremony

  • The annual Canadian Institute of Forestry (CIF) Silver Ring Ceremony will take place on March 26th, 2022. This is a long-standing tradition and significant ceremony for students graduating from each of UBC Forestry’s degree programs. Each graduate will be presented with a silver ring that welcomes them to the profession and celebrates the bond that unites all Canadian forestry graduates. The engraving of the maple leaf on the ring that grows towards the tip of the finger symbolizes the growth of professional responsibilities. The Silver Ring is usually worn on the little finger of a person’s working/dominant hand.
  • More details, including the time and location, of the ceremony will be shared soon, but for now please save the date.
  • The Silver Ring Ceremony is only held once a year, so if you plan to graduate in Fall 2022, you are welcome to participate in the March ceremony.

Ring Sizing and Ordering:

All students hoping to participate in the UBC-CIF Silver Ring Ceremony must provide Forestry Student Services with their ring size and provide payment for the ring by February 18th in order the be included in UBC’s order.

Please stop by Forestry Student Services from February 7th– February 18th between 9:00am and 4:30pm to get your ring sized and submit your payment.

Rings are $45 for those who are CIF members (must show proof of registration) or $65 for non-CIF-members (cash or cheque only).

You can also measure your ring size at home, though it is recommended to use the ring sizer in the Student Services office.

If you have any questions about rings, please stop by the office or send us an email.
