City of Surrey, Surrey, BC

This is my third co-op work term and this summer I am working with the City of Surrey. Everyone is very nice to me and enthusiastic to teach me a lot about urban forestry. I had a lot of fun removing blackberries, and other invasive plants such as ivy. It is very physically challenging, maybe because it’s my first two days, but also maybe because I am under the sun a lot. I was mainly working in some small city parks, where there are previously planted areas (with native species). We can get a lot done in one day, two to three parks. We also have a lot of the local residents inquiring about our duties. Sometimes we also encounter people who litter in the park and we also have to deal with that. Overall I think this job is very rewarding and a fresh topic to me!
