Twenty-one doctoral students at UBC have received a Vanier Canada Graduate Fellowship, and nine postdoctoral fellows have received a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship. The announcement was made on September 6 by the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, at the University of Alberta. Across Canada, there were 167 new Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship recipients and 70 new Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship recipients, for a total investment of $34.9 million.
Ira Sutherland, from UBC Forestry, received the scholarship for his research on ecosystem services recovery in an era of novel forest disturbances.
