Encompassing products ranging from large, cross-laminated timbers down to the nearly invisible cellulose nanocrystal structures, bioproduct research at UBC is at the forefront of renewable and sustainable product innovation useful to society. Breakthroughs in plant biotechnology for enhanced biochemical production and the development of new biocatalysts useful to make aviation biofuels are some of the world-class research activities. Bioproducts research at UBC generates innovative, new processes, such as 3-D printing of wood nanomaterials, which will help shape the foundation of tomorrow’s Canadian bioeconomy.
