Communities, Indigenous Knowledge & Natural Resources

Long before BC’s trail-blazing Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), Faculty-led research projects have been responsive to Indigenous priorities, and continue to be co-developed and carried out collaboratively with Indigenous partners in British Columbia, across Canada, and globally. All research projects adhere to both community-specific and UBC guidelines for ethical research, including Free, Prior, and Informed Consent. Cognizant of the history of inequitable Indigenous-settler relations, Faculty and students follow the 4 Rs – respect, relationship, responsibility, and reverence.
