External Awards
The Office of Research Prizes and Awards (ORPA) provides a list of external Research Awards for Faculty.
Some relevant discipline-specific awards for our faculty are IUFRO awards (International Union of Forest Research Organizations, every 4 years) and CIF awards (Canadian Institute of Forestry, annually). We also submit nominations to the Royal Society of Canada (RSC, annually).
UBC Awards
Annually, UBC awards a series of internal UBC prizes for various career stages. Some require nomination by peers or your Faculty, for some you can submit the nomination yourself. Some awards are for communication and outreach. If you are interested, please reach out to Pia Smets.
Note: awards/scholarships for your students are a totally different thing. You can find them listed here, and Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies offers many useful workshops for your graduate students to navigate this terrain. Also consult Erica Triggs and the graduate studies team for advice on student funding.
Faculty of Forestry Awards
Forestry Outstanding Research Award: this bi-annual award is for an assistant or associate professor for research output and impact in the two previous years. Each department nominates one candidate.
