Outreach Assistant at District of West Vancouver in West Vancouver, BC

This summer term, I worked as an Outreach Assistant for the District of West Vancouver in the Engineering Services department. I planned various outreach events that educated the residents of West Vancouver about our Green Can Program, Streetside Recycling, and Shoreline Clean-up initiatives. My responsibilities included fostering a greater sense of awareness towards our initiatives and educating the public on common misconceptions. It was interesting to implement community-based social marketing as a tool to bolster my outreach efforts. Additionally, I was able to hone my project management, presentation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills by being organized and adaptive throughout the work term. I utilized all of these skills to help plan and deliver outreach events within the West Vancouver community. I gained insight into the work environment for government positions through talking to my co-workers and networking within the municipality in fields related to my studies. As a bonus, I got to cruise around in an electric vehicle when promoting outreach! Overall, this Co-op term has furthered my aspiration to pursue a career in the environmental field within government upon graduation.
