Hydro One Networks
For my second work term, I have taken a placement with Hydro One Networks Inc. in their Forestry Work Management department. My primary duty is to manage a tree defect database that tracks the number of vegetative defects taken out next to our electrical lines within the province of Ontario. As experience gathers, new opportunities arised based on my skillsets and I have been working on creating a new tool to capture field data using VBA. Throughout my ongoing work term, I have gained an in-depth experience of how important forestry is related to the utilities industry as well as how electricity is transmitted and distributed within a province. I have further honed my abilities of working in a fast paced and team oriented environment. Without co-op, I would have never been able to enter and work with such a professional team of people – working and learning from aspiring colleagues, mentors, and supervisors. I encourage all those with the thought of joining co-op, even the smallest, to join the co-op program as it provides you one foot in the door before graduation.
