For my summer co-op work term I worked as a Conservation Youth Crew member at The Nature Trust of British Columbia. Our main objectives as the Conservation Youth Crew were to manage and maintain the ecological integrity of our 20 properties in the Lower Mainland. Not only was I able to travel to beautiful places, my plant and bird identification skills improved drastically through conducting bird and plant surveys. My crew was also tasked with a restoration project on one of our properties, which allowed me to gain experience in conducting site surveys and soil surveys. The information gathered was used to decide which plants to plant and where to plant them. This position was a wonderful start for students like me with no conservation experience to learn more about land management and conservation!
