Co-op Student at Monte Creek Winery in Monte Creek, BC

For the past few months of my co-op term, I have been working for Monte Creek Winery as a sustainability student. My work focused on three parts: environmental assessments, environmental monitoring, and vineyard management. I have collaborated with specialists from the Thompson Nicola Regional District on doing inventories of the invasive plant species on Monte Creek Winery’s property and developing plans to remove them from the land. I have also worked with a professor from the Thompson Rivers University on assessing and monitoring the bird boxes on the winery’s property. Incorporating the suggestions from the professor, I also developed a perch plan to support the hunting of local raptors and encourage more bird species to make their home in and around the properties. Nonetheless, I also worked with the vineyard manager and the vineyard team in assisting vine growth. Through this position, I had the opportunity to learn under serval knowledgeable people, and I am now much more confident with invasive species control, bird population restoration, and vineyard management.
