The Forest Practices Board

A professional hydrologist, an Investigator from the Board and myself met in the Okanagan to do an aerial over-view of the Peachland watershed. My first ever helicopter experience was followed by an on-the-ground site visit to investigate the condition of roads, landslides and water passages (ex. culverts) in the watershed. The investigation of the Peachland watershed began when a resident filed a complaint with the Board about forestry activities in the Peachland and Trepanier Community Watersheds, both of which supply water to the town of Peachland. The resident claims that the forestry activities are having a negative impact on water quality. This experience was just one of the many eye-opening and a great opportunities I have had to learn from experienced professionals during my Co-op term with the Forest Practices Board!
