Working as a Program Assistant for the Global Buyers Mission during the summer was a fast paced experience. BC Wood is a not-for-profit trade association that supports BC businesses that manufacture wood products. They have been a voice for the industry for over 25 years, bringing innovative ideas to the table and insight into how we can strengthen BC’s wood culture. My main tasks for the summer revolved around the Global Buyers Mission, an international trade event promoting BC wood manufacturers put on by BC Wood. As the event is so large it requires months of advanced planning and coordination. Throughout the course of the summer working on the GBM my duties included recruiting, registration assistance, answering event related inquiries, producing attendance & financial reports, and producing promotional materials. I was also given the chance to work on numerous other non-GBM related tasks with other members of the BC Wood team. Throughout the course of my co-op I have gained valuable communication and interpersonal skills that cannot be taught in a classroom. After looking back on this work term it has become clear that this Co-op and all future ones will be a vital part of my education.
