BSCN – Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Vancouver, BC
During my first Co-op term I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to work with Fisheries and Oceans Canada. In their lab in West Vancouver, I have been working on processing soil samples, as well as oyster samples, so that different calculations can be made on amounts of organic material present and the overall health of the ecosystems the samples were collected from. I have also taken part in the educational programs offered at the lab, and in helping engage young children in the wonders of science and measures taken in collecting a sample, as well as reporting and analyzing data. Lastly, I have been granted the opportunity to learn valuable information on fish culture and the care that goes into ensuring a healthy facility with healthy animals.
