Nicholas Mantegna (Urban Forestry)

Arborist Grounds Person at Bartlett Tree Service in Delta, BC

UBC Forestry Co-op student, Nicholas Mantegna, sits and works on a tree.

For my second co-op work term, I am working as an Arborist Groundsperson with Bartlett Tree Experts in Vancouver.  Bartlett Tree Experts is a tree care company that provides clients with tree services within urban environments. We perform a diversity of jobs such as: pruning, fertilizing, planting and removing trees.  As I progressed with the job, I learned how to use a variety of tools such as handsaws, chainsaws, wood chippers, pole pruners and hedge trimmers.  I also gained a better understanding of how clients in Metro-Vancouver perceive the pros and cons of living with trees on residential properties.  Some days I am pulling on ropes so that I can assist a tree climber with rigging a branch out of a tree.  Working with Bartlett Tree Experts through the UBC Forestry Co-op Program allowed me to gain a better understanding of how I want to apply my UBC Forestry degree after I graduate.
