BSFS – BC Hydro, Burnaby, BC
I have been with BC Hydro for almost three months now as a Co-op student in the department of Integrated Planning – Line Asset Planning/Distribution Asset Planning with the Vegetation Management Program. Since starting in September, I have learned about the generation, transmission, and distribution of electricity in British Columbia and the importance of proper vegetation management in system reliability. I have been responsible for compiling a weekly fire summary report of fires around BC Hydro assets, simplifying and streamlining documents for our Hazard Tree Program, and compiling a database of Indigenous groups that have traditional claim on land where BC Hydro facilities are located to establish thorough communication procedures before vegetation management. I am grateful for the opportunity that Co-op has given me with this position, and I highly recommend Co-op to students looking for unique experience and networking opportunities.
