Western Forest Products, Chemainus, BC
As a first time co-op student at Western Forest Products, I was given the opportunity to work at different departments in the Chemainus sawmill. I gained a lot of valuable knowledge about production flow by conducting several project time-studies, and developed the ability to recognize key factors to run a high-profit mill. Also, I spent some time doing supervisor work, where I tracked downtime, utilized computer programs, computed reports and ensured employees were wearing proper personal protective equipment. As a last note, Co-op is not a regular nine to five job; it is a unique experience that goes far beyond your imagination. Start thinking about the skills that you could gain from Co-op, the opportunities that you are looking for and the relationships you will build for the future!
