Loewen Windows – Steinbach, MB
It is hard to believe how much I have learned and explored since my work term at Loewen Windows. I have gained practical knowledge in the secondary wood industry and met many nice people in Steinbach, Manitoba. I worked as a wood processing engineer and joined a wood cutstock optimization team, which aims to optimize the product processes and redesign the product cutstock. During this journey, I not only acquired software skills such as Excel, Inventor, and AS400 system but also learned how to cooperate with people in a work environment. Besides, Loewen’s lean culture has inspired me and taught me to work and live efficiently. I believe this is what I cannot learn from my academic studies. I have gained more practical skills during this Co-op term and I have contributed my best to the company. I want to mention that before I came to UBC as an international student, I have never imagined that I would work in the real industry before my graduation. The Co-op program helped me explore myself as a wood processing student and pushed me to step out from the school paperwork into the real world practice. I appreciate this great job opportunity that UBC Forestry Co-op and Loewen Windows has given to me. I would recommend that students join this program as it has brought me fantastic and valuable work experience.
