Alerik Wang (Urban Forestry)

Park Attendant at District of West Vancouver in West Vancouver, BC

UBC Forestry Co-op student, Alerik Wang, is sitting inside a park maintenance vehicle.

I’ve been working for the District of West Vancouver as a park attendant in my first co-op work term, mostly operating out of Ambleside Park, however, I’ve visited several other locations in West Vancouver for work this term. I’ve been learning a lot about park operations and park maintenance as well as communication with the general public. I’m working on my problem solving skills as well because the day-to-day can be unpredictable so I need to be able to deal with any new tasks that come up throughout the day. I’ve also been learning how to use landscaping power tools such as hedgetrimmers, leafblowers, and weed eaters for the park maintenance part of my job. The weather has been great this summer, and I love working outside at such a beautiful location everyday. I am extremely appreciative of getting this opportunity to work and gain real world experience in my field of study, and I’d strongly recommend the co-op program for students looking for a similar opportunity.
