Wood Products Proccessing

This summer I have been working at Mercer Mass Timber as a Project Coordinator in Okanagan Falls, BC. I have been able to work closely with two project managers on a variety of projects, from small to large. A few tasks that I have helped with been involved with are scheduling, procurement, and compiling submittal information.

For my second co-op term, I have been working for West Fraser at Williams Lake Sawmill as a Quality Control Assistant. It was an amazing journey where I was exposed to many aspects of safety, quality control, data analysis, and project management. I took the lumber grading course and got an A ticket.

During my second and third Co-op work terms, I worked with the Building Systems group at a non-profit research organization. Here are some of the projects and tasks I worked on: conducting destructive and nondestructive tests on lumber, cutting wood samples and determining moisture content/specific gravity, performing tension tests on wood brace connections, assembling metal plates onto CLT blocks, and conducting vibration E testing on lumber.

I have been working on quality control at West Fraser – Hinton Wood Products, where I am responsible for ensuring the quality of production. This job combines both mental and physical labour, making it interesting and engaging.
