– Graduate (or undergraduate for marking) student in Forestry

– Assist students with assignments
– Grade assignments and exams
– Hold office hours to mentor students and troubleshoot problems
Introduction to Geomatics for Natural Resource Management: NRES 241 – 921-Summer Term 1
Instructor: Christopher Colton
Total No. Required: 4 GTAs, 1 UTA
Hours Allotted: 12 hours per week for 8 weeks (96 hours) depending on budget and enrollment
Required Qualifications:
– Graduate student with research experience applying spatial analysis and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to their area of study
– Experience working with a variety of GIS software including ArcGIS Pro and QGIS
– Knowledge of relational database management systems and Structured Query Language (SQL)
– Passion for teaching and an interest in improving your teaching practice
Description of General Nature of Duties:
– Lead computer lab exercises on various topics related to GIS and spatial analysis
– Assist students during lab exercises and answer technical and conceptual questions about GIS and various spatial analyses
– Problem-solve technical issues that arise during labs
– Assess lab assignments and provide constructive feedback to students
– Document issues, bugs, and inaccuracies in lab assignment instructions and make updates to the instructions
Master of Sustainable Forest Management
Fundamentals of Sustainable Forest Land Management – FRST 555 – Summer Term 2

Total No. Required: 1 GTA
Hours Allotted: 12 hours per week for 13 weeks (156 hours) depending on budget and enrollment
Required Qualifications:
– Level 1 First Aid
– Experience with forest ecology and forest measurements
– Must be prepared to work outdoors in any weather
Description of General Nature of Duties:
This TA position (full-time, one term) is in support of FRST 555, which is a core course in the course-based Master of Sustainable Forest Management (MSFM) program. We expect 15 to 25 students in this program. This will be an international student group that includes recent graduates, early and mid-career professionals.
– Assistance in preparing classroom-based lectures and field-based instruction
– Leading seminars and supervising project work
– Field-based exercises and field trips
– Driving passenger vans during field trips
– There will be some preparatory work during June to August, and some follow-up work in September
– The appointment will be from June 1-September 30, 2025
FRST 555 runs from July 2 to September 3, 2025. From July 2 to August 16 students complete pre-readings and exercises remotely and begin in-person classes on August 19. During the first week of in-person instructions is at UBC, the UBC Farm, the Malcolm Knapp Research Forest and other locations near Vancouver. From Sunday August 25 to Saturday Sept 3, 2025, the class will travel to Nelson, BC to learn more about forest management and conduct exercises.
