Dr. Kim developed forensic methods to distinguish plantation-grown Fiji mahogany from old-growth material and showed that a guitar made from plantation wood had musical properties comparable to one made from old-growth mahogany, supporting the sustainable use of plantation mahogany for the manufacture of electric guitars.
