Dr. Valentine Lafond

Dr. Valentine Lafond is the lead instructor of the Forest Management Planning program, with support from colleagues from the Faculty of Forestry and forestry professionals. Valentine is an expert in forest management and modelling, and has a long experience in developing and using decision support systems to assess management options that address contemporary issues related to forest management (climate change, natural disturbances, balancing multiple forest values), both in Canada and in Europe. She has extensive experience developing and delivering educational materials related to forest management (including University-level courses, training sessions, and workshops). She is a forester by training and holds a PhD from the University of Grenoble-Alpes / INRAE (France), and has been working as a researcher and instructor at UBC Faculty of Forestry since 2017.
