Tzeng Yih Lam awarded Silvicultural Prize 2024

May 12, 2025 | Author: UBC Forestry

Congratulations to Tzeng Yih Lam on being awarded the 2024 Silvicultural Prize for the paper ‘Integrating rapid assessment, variable probability sampling, and machine learning to improve accuracy and consistency in mapping local spatial distribution of plant species richness‘

Tzeng Yih Lam

About Tzeng Yih’s Research

Tzeng Yih’s research interests include tree measurement, forest sampling, and quantitative silviculture. He develops close-range photogrammetry tools to measure hard-to-reach tree attributes. Tzeng Yih’s work in forest sampling involves designing efficient and cost-effective probability-based inventory systems to estimate timber production, ecosystem services, and forest growth, with a focus on using auxiliary information to guide the selection of ground samples. In quantitative silviculture, his primary interest is the use of Bayesian filtering to project forest development.

About the Silvicultural Prize

The Percy Stubbs and John Bolton King and Edward Garfitt Prize for Silviculture (Silvicultural Prize) is awarded annually for work published in the Institute of Chartered Foresters’ (ICF) prestigious journal Forestry: An International Journal of Forest Research. Learn more.
