Environment and Carbon Management Co-op Student – FortisBC

This summer I have been working on FortisBC’s carbon management and environment team. My main responsibility has been researching how they could use nature-based carbon offsets to reduce their overall emissions, but I also assist in writing grant applications to the BC government.

Summer Camps Athletics and Recreation Programmer – Simon Fraser University

I have been working with SFU Camps this summer and it was truly fantastic. Throughout the summer I got to work on the unceded Traditional Coast Salish Lands including the Squamish (S?wx?wú7mesh Úxwumixw), Tsleil-Waututh (s?l?ilw??ta??) and Musqueam (x?m?θk??y??m) Nations as a recreation camp attendant.

I have been completing my second co-op term with the city of Campbell River as a part of their water department. So far during my term, I have developed a deep understanding of the intricacies and hurdles that are associated with working at a local government.

Research Co-op Student – UBC Forest Resources Management Department, FRESH Lab

For my final co-op work term, I joined the FRESH lab in the Forest Resources Management department at UBC as a Research Co-op Student. One of my current projects involves working with a Master’s student to create a raster-based model in R that predicts Hemlock dwarf mistletoe spread at a stand level.

GIS Business Analyst; Korotu Technology I have been working as a GIS Business Analyst in Korotu Technology, a startup that seeks to provide stakeholders with technologies to fund, protect, and grow Nature-based solutions. For the last 4 out of 8 months in this internship, I was tasked to create a windthrow prediction model for Nova Scotia after being hit by a post-tropical storm. Climate Action Technician; Wildsight’s Youth Climate Corps During my third Co-op Term, I have been working with Wildsight’s Youth Climate Corps as a Climate Action Technician. This term I have been working on a Wildfire Risk Reduction Project in the Kimberley Nature park In Kimberley, BC. This project entails the thinning and clearing of fir, spruce and larch regeneration. The goal is to reduce the risk of having a high intensity fire in city limits.
