Master the mysteries of nature with the Master of Science (Msc) in Forestry or Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Forestry degree.
The University of British Columbia Faculty of Forestry offers two thesis-based Master’s programs: the Master of Science (MSc) in Forestry and the Master of Applied Science (MASc) in Forestry.
Why choose a Masters in Science in Forestry / Masters in Applied Science in Forestry?
The research-oriented degrees offer students the opportunities to tailor their studies and work closely with their supervisor and affiliated department. Over the course of two to three years, students will receive training in research techniques and apply them to a focused and specific problem.
We have approximately 115 thesis-based master’s students in any given year, which is about one-third of our total graduate student population. In addition to being part of the Faculty of Forestry, MSc and MASc students are also considered members of one of our three Faculty departments, based on their supervisor’s affiliation.

Meet Anna
MSc Student
UBC was one of several universities I considered for my graduate degree. The combination of funding, atmosphere, and supervisor were deciding factors in my choice. Scott Hinch is an excellent scientist in the field of salmon conservation and is a great supervisor. It was ultimately him that made me choose UBC.
