Forest Sciences

Forests are able to function and thrive because of a complex interplay of organisms and systems. The study of Forest Sciences gives students a deeper understanding of this intricate network through the exploration of plants, animals, insects, fungi, algae and bacteria found within forest ecosystems, uncovering how they live and interact with each other as well as with non-living elements, such as rocks, soil, water, fire and climate. Graduates can choose to pursue professional certification as either a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio).

What You Will Learn

Learn about the scientific principles related to the growth and development of forest organisms; the ecology of plant and animal communities; and the importance of balancing biological diversity with natural resource needs and availability. The Forest Sciences program gives students a bigger picture view of forest resources management and forest ecosystems while offering a unique opportunity to specialize in an area of concentration (during your second year), such as genetics, ecology, entomology, pathology, silviculture and hydrology.

Experimental Education:

Students majoring in Forest Sciences will participate in immersive field camps. This hands-on experience will provide them with essential skills and knowledge to effectively address real-world forest challenges.
