Binkley Family Graduate Scholarship winners for 2025

UBC Forestry wishes to congratulate Brook Tessema, Vivekan Jeyagaran, and Eden Hardcastle on being the 2025 recipients of the Binkley Family Graduate Scholarship!

About the Binkley Family Graduate Scholarship

This scholarship is made available through an endowment established by Dr. Clark S. Binkley, and is awarded to one outstanding graduate student in each of the Faculty of Forestry’s professional master’s programs (MGEM, MSFM, and MIF).

MGEM – Brook Tessema

MGEM is delighted to announce Brook Tessema as this year’s Binkley Family Graduate Scholarship MGEM recipient. Brook is a top achieving scholar in the MGEM cohort. In addition to showing exceptional dedication to academic excellence he showed professionalism and dedication. Brook is quick to ask questions that progress class discussions forward and encourages deeper learning among his peers. Overall, Brook embodies the traits of a Binkley Scholar!

MIF – Vivekan Jeyagaran

MIF is thrilled to announce Vivekan Jeyagaran as this year’s Binkley Family Graduate Scholarship MIF recipient. A Sri Lankan-Canadian with a background in international development and economics, Vivekan demonstrated outstanding academic performance and strong leadership skills throughout the program. Through active participation, he consistently made connections between the seven core courses that compose the MIF program, and played a role in fostering rich group discussions.

MSFM – Eden Hardcastle

MSFM is delighted to announce Eden Hardcastle as this year’s Binkley Family Graduate Scholarship MSFM recipient. Eden’s continuous engagement and dedication to the class and crew members was respected among her peers while she emerged as a leader in the cohort. The quality of her work demonstrated high standards and resulted in exemplary academic outcomes. Eden embodies the spirit, leadership and scholarly achievement of a Binkley Award winner.
