Urban Forestry and Green Infrastructure

Urban systems are home to most of the world’s population. Cities have an outsized influence on global health and human well-being and are also increasingly vulnerable to the impacts of global environmental change and social inequities. Our research on urban forestry and green infrastructure help us to understand these dynamics and the complex socio-ecological systems underlying our cities. Through interdisciplinary research and global collaboration, we are building the resilient and healthy cities of tomorrow.

Examples of our research

  • Below-ground systems of urban forests and how they affect ecosystem service provision
  • Building social-ecological resilience to climate change through nature-based solutions in urban and peri-urban landscapes
  • How to design healthy, just, and resilient cities through urban nature
  • The role of urban forests in human health and well-being
