Summer Student Resource Assistant – BC Timber Sales

This summer I’ve had the pleasure of working as a Resource Assistant with BC Timber Sales based in Smithers. My role has exposed me to a breadth of studies and field work such as block layouts, silviculture planting and harvesting, riparian assessments, road assessments, and the economic valuation of wood harvests.

Forest Technician Northern Interior Forest Operations – Forsite

I have been working on doing Individual Tree Inventory (ITI) most of the time during my work term. In this job, I have to measure every tree’s DBH, height, age and record any defects on the tree. I have learned a lot during my time there, including defining defects on trees and using vertex to measure tree height as referenced in the photo.

I have been working as a Forestry Management Assistant (FMA) with the Forestry Planning and Permits team under the Forestry Department. My daily duties include inspecting and approving dead tree permits, releasing tree security deposits, and conducting TPZ inspections for pools.
