Ingrid Jarvis Receives the Best Doctoral Dissertation and Marina Melanidis Receives the Best Master’s Thesis Awards in Forestry for 2022

Celebrating Black History Month 2023
Black History Month serves as a time to honor and celebrate the accomplishments of Black students, staff, and faculty within our UBC Forestry community. While we should celebrate these achievements everyday, we hope to offer this time as an opportunity for focused and intentional reflection. This year, we are grateful to share with you four stories of some of our amazing Forestry students and alumni.
Trimble Technology Lab
“The Trimble Technology Lab at UBC gives students and researchers access to some of the most sought-after digital tools that are being integrated into forestry practices across the industry,” says Prof. and Canada Research Chair in Remote Sensing Nicholas Coops.
Exploring UBC Forestry with Rebecca Jin
Rebecca Jin is a fourth-year student in the Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources Conservation program, majoring in Science and Management. Having completed part of her program online due to the pandemic, Rebecca is excited to get more involved in university life as VP Internal for the Forestry Undergraduate Society in the upcoming term.
Master of International Forestry Field School Returns to Quesnel
In partnership with the City of Quesnel and their Forestry Initiatives Program, UBC Forestry hosted its third Master of International Forestry Field School. This year, 16 students and their professors spent two days in Quesnel speaking to land managers, small businesses, government reps from the local First Nations, the municipality, the provincial government, and industry experts.
