From Engineer to ‘Wood Nerd’

UBC Forestry Experts Call for Proactive Approach to Prepare for More Extreme Wildfires

Wildfires have grown in frequency, intensity and overall burned area due to climate change. UBC Forestry researchers Dr. Lori Daniels, Dr. Kira Hoffman and Dr. Kelsey Copes-Gerbitz are wildfire experts whose research focuses on how natural disturbances such as wildfires and droughts, human factors and climate interact to affect how easily—or not—forests burn.

Cristiano Loss and UBC Team Receive $1M NSERC Alliance Missions Grant

UBC Forestry’s Cristiano Loss and a team of fellow researchers were recently awarded a $1M NSERC Alliance Missions grant. Their project, funded over two years, will help lead the development of advanced technologies for the creation of high-performance structures and surrounding community infrastructure that can respond to external stimuli and develop a resilient built environment.
