I had the pleasure of working with Resolute Forest Products and landed a job as QC Wood Process Engineer. The job required that I reside in Thunder Bay Ontario. The move from Vancouver to Thunder Bay is what anyone could expect…a big move. But I did it with the help of the great HR team from Resolute, they got me settled in.

This summer I received the opportunity to work with Lil’wat Nation in Mt. Currie, BC. For the past 3 months I helped manage their forests in a holistic manner. This entailed tree planting, different types of surveys (reagan, free grow, coarse woody debris, indicator species surveys), survey compilations, demarcation of and within blocks using plot lines, as well as fuel management.

I have been completing this work term as a laboratory assistant with ALS Canada Limited. ALS provides laboratory testing, inspection, certification and verification of various samples. So far during my work term I have been learning about the various testing that the lab does as well as preparing/dispensing water samples for the appropriate testing that has been requested by clients to undergo.

This summer I have been working on FortisBC’s carbon management and environment team. My main responsibility has been researching how they could use nature-based carbon offsets to reduce their overall emissions, but I also assist in writing grant applications to the B.C. government, and surveying gas plants for leaks. I have gained extensive knowledge into FortisBC’s role in the clean-energy transition and how the global carbon offset market operates.

I have been working with SFU Camps this summer and it was truly fantastic. Throughout the summer I got to work on the unceded Traditional Coast Salish Lands including the Squamish (S?wx?wú7mesh Úxwumixw), Tsleil-Waututh (s?l?ilw??ta??) and Musqueam (x?m?θk??y??m) Nations as a recreation camp attendant.

I am working in a chemical company in Belgium called Solvay as a Sustainability Procurement Analyst. I have been working on several projects including the “One Project One Buyer” initiative. This project aims to reduce the CO2 emissions of our company by fostering sustainable practices across the supply chain, particularly targeting scope 3 emissions. My role involves scaling up the program to ensure that over 50% of buyers are engaged with at least one sustainability project.
