Study Support

Managing your academic work at university can be an enormous challenge. In order to reach your academic potential and get the maximum benefit from your studies, it is important for you to master the skill of studying early in your academic career. There are many workshops and services available on campus, which can help develop personal study strategies and provide you with great opportunities to learn from and with others.

  • Forestry Student Services provides Peer-Assisted Study Sessions for difficult first-year courses. These study sessions are run by upper-year students who have been successful in the course in previous years. They facilitate sessions to go over difficult course concepts. Courses that this program has supported include CHEM 111, CHEM 121, CHEM 123, MATH 190, MATh 102, MATH 103, and APBI 200.
  • UBC Counselling Services offers several study skills workshops that may provide you with the skills needed to increase your grades, reduce your study time, and more importantly reduce your stress level.
  • If you are looking for tutoring help, the Alma Mater Society (AMS) provides free drop-in tutoring services to students registered in the first-year Math, Chemistry, Physics, French and English/Writing. Certain fees may be associated with tutoring for some second-year courses.
  • The UBC Learning Commons in the Main Library also hosts a series of study skills workshops that may prove valuable to you.
