Michael Wulder Appointed to the Order of Canada
UBC Forestry & Environmental Stewardship wishes to congratulate Adjunct Professor Micheal Wulder in the Department of Forest Resources Management for being appointed as a Member to the Order of Canada for his internationally recognized innovations in the field of remote sensing for mapping and monitoring land cover.
Finding a Path to Urban Forestry
After cutting her teeth on research and tree planting, UBC Forestry & Environmental Stewardship alumnus, Tara Bergeson (BSF’09) entered the then emerging field of urban forestry. Now the Urban Forestry Supervisor with the City of Kelowna, Tara has played a key role in community greening and wildfire preparedness projects, including Kelowna’s most recent wildfire resiliency plan.
Bianca Eskelson Receives the Alexander Von Humboldt Research Fellowship
Dr. Bianca Eskelson has been awarded the prestigious Humboldt Research Fellowship by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. She is recognized as a Humboldt fellow for her research project on climate-sensitive tree mortality models and the economic implications of altered mortality probabilities in mixed-species stands in central Europe and interior British Columbia, Canada.
Younes Alila and Lydia Braam Receive AMS Just Desserts Award

In the Spotlight: Dr. Juliet Lu
Juliet Lu is an Assistant Professor with both the Faculty of Forestry & Environmental Stewardship and UBC’s School for Public Policy and Global Affairs. She is a political ecologist focused on the implications of China’s growing investments in land and other resources in Southeast Asia and beyond.
